Title:
PRR 2413, AF-24, 1963
Description:
24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 October 1963. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2413 and #7255. #2413 is an AF-24 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1962 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. #7255 is an EFS-17M built by EMD in 1959 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge with a 108-car mixed-cargo freight train on their way through Altoona to the Enola Yards. The caboose is #477777.

Title:
PRR 7175, EFS-17M, c. 1964
Description:
Kreamer. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by R. von dem Hagen that was taken from the 24th Street Bridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1964. Prominent at the left are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #7175, #2413, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #7175 is an EFS-17M built by GM-EMD in October of 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. #2413 is an AF-24 built by the American Locomotive Company in October of 1962 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. In this context, they're passing the now-shuttered SLOPE Tower with a mixed-cargo freight train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Two tracks over, a TrucTrain just down "The Mountain" winds its way through the interlocking into Altoona and points East. The smokestack at the right marks the location of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. Brush Mountain dominates the distance. (#5 of 9)
