LV 4-6-0C #1608 - Lehigh Valley
Title:  LV 4-6-0C #1608 - Lehigh Valley
Description:  A proud crew of Lehigh Valley 4-6-0C #1608 poses outside in the cold by their loco for a photo to be taken. This massive 4-6-0C ten wheeler camelback was built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predecessor) in August of 1904 (serial #2459) originally as Lehigh Valley#LV 1009. It was renumbered to LV 1608 in 1905. This high stepping camelback was used in freight service based at Buffalo, NY between 1917-19. It was rebuilt in April of 1922 at ALCo adding a superheater, piston valves and Walschaerts valve gear. It was reclassified as J-55. The loco finally was retired in September of 1932 after nearly 28 years of service and then met the scrapper's torch in March of 1933. Original specs - 68.5" drivers and 21x28" cylinders. The photo is from the Bob Lorenz collection and now part of my railroad collection. No location or date was listed for the photo so approximates were used.
