Viewing Album:  The Johnny Ray Files--The Norfolk Southern 1990s

Album Info:Norfolk Southern inherited many Deep South pulp and timber branches, and seemed to have a penchant for keeping them going when CSX and others did not. The Johnny Ray was no different, making a living providing pulpwood and woodchips from two woodyards on the line, and sawmill and an occasional load of lumber for a local building supply distributor. Even the historical society that garnered the Victorian style depoo in Lafayette, AL had its ex Southern bay window caboose delivered by the hardworking NS Lafayette Turn, the inheritor to the Johhny Ray and Roanoke Rocket locals that polished the rails so many years before. The last caboose to move on the Lafayette Branch takes up the rear of a long T-line local, aka the Roanoke Rocket. The cab was retired in place and shipped on the local to LaFeyette for eventual set up and display at the converted depot to museum grounds
